My name’s Ian and I’ve been living in Japan since 2010. For the majority of that time, I worked as a freelance web developer until taking the role of CTO for a company called Tokyo Creative.
Throughout my time here, I’ve been extremely fortunate to have met a plethora of amazing and interesting people and have had experiences that I often have no idea how I’ve found myself in.
Previously, the focus of this website was to promote my portfolio in order to find freelance contracts, but I’ve come to realize that a much better use would be to give my friends and family (and anyone else who find it helpful) some idea of my experiences and daily life here.
I love to travel and am very fortunate to be working in a role that allows (and often encourages) me to travel to far-flung corners of the country to interact with people, events and places that are hopefully appealing to anyone with an interest in Japan.
Outside of work, my hobbies are basketball, looking for dogs to play with, making music that no one listens to and making little web side projects that no one uses.
Thank you for taking the time to visit, if you have any questions at all, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
Who are Tokyo Creative?
Tokyo Creative is the leading Japan-based agency for English speaking influencers. We currently have over 30 influencers working exclusively with us who make amazing content which has collectively amassed over 1 billion views on Youtube.
In my role as CTO, my main responsibility is to ensure the upkeep and expansion of our corporate website tokyocreative.jp, our travel website tokyocreative.com (which has info on over 12,000 sights in Japan, please check it out!) and our premium educational subscription service TC Learn.
More often than not, I can be found staring at code in our Tokyo office, however, I sometimes get let out to work on fun projects, most recently as project manager for Journey Across Japan, a two month trip from Yamagata to Kagoshima with our very own Chris Broad.
